I thought that I would start my first ever blog with a post about me and why I have decided to start writing.
I am a 25 year old full time teacher, who suffers from a chronic pain condition called Fibromyalgia. I have decided to start this blog to help family, friends, colleagues and others to understand the condition and how I feel and cope with Fibromyalgia on a day to day basis. It can be hard when you have a chronic, invisible illness to explain to others how it can impact on your day to day life, for them to understand and it can also be tiring having to explain it constantly.
So you may ask, why now? Well I have come to the realisation that my condition is not going to just disappear one morning; however much I dream of this, it just isn’t going to happen. Now I need to focus on what I can do and not what I can’t do. I have gone through several stages including anger, denial and even a sense of grief and loss for my ‘old’ life, but I am now starting to accept my condition and I feel ready to move on with my life.
My aim is to post at least once a week, teaching and fibro doesn’t leave time for much else! I am planning to write about and explore the condition, how I cope on a day to day basis whilst working full time, things I like to do to take my mind off the pain and how valuable my support network is. Hopefully this will help me take control of my condition and allow others to see into my world.
So it is time to take a leap of faith and put my story out there.
Here’s to new beginnings!
